Hanauma Bay

I stopped over in Oahu, Hawaii for 3 days around Feb 2004, on the way back from Vancouver. Ironically we had had great weather for most of our trip across the Canadian Rockies.. beautiful blue skies with a little snow on the last day.. but just half way through our Hawaii stay we were hit by a huge tropical storm!

On the first day of our stay we thawed out in the sun... no longer was the top temp a single digit number! We walked around Honulu and spent some time on the sand at Waikiki as per picture below. That night we went to an Alahu, which was lucky as they were cancelled for the next few days due to the rain...

On the second day we went on a Grand Circle Island tour. One of the first places we stopped at was Hanauma bay, (top picture), which I planned to revisit the next day for a bit of snorkelling. From there we visited Halona Blowhole, below, before having lunch at a pineapple plantation.

After lunch we toured the North Shore surf beaches, which were disappointedly flat. There were a few people out trying to catch waves, but the waves were pretty poor considering it was winter time... which is meant to be the biggest swell time.

Shortly after this the rains started and didn't stop until we left the next night. For sure Oahu was a fun stopover, and I would love to explore the other islands... I think we were just unlucky with the weather.
