Amsterdam, a major city in Holland, is famous for its night life, unique ‘coffee’ houses and extensive red light district. The picture above was taken along one of the cities canals.
Ok, Amsterdam is not exactly on the beach, but I didn’t want to leave a gap from the last stop on our cruise to the next real coast we visited at Calais. So, from Genoa, Italy we disembarked from the MSC ship that had taken us all the way around the Mediterranean and caught a train a short distance north to Milan. After a short overnight stay we got a cheap flight to Amsterdam, where we stayed with my wife’s Uncle and Aunt in Arnhem…. famous town from the war. This was pointed out to me when Uncle Augie announced we had missed the shops as we had gone ‘A Bridge Too Far’… hilarious…
I found Amsterdam to be unmemorable… as in I don’t remember much about what I got up to there… thats my story, and im sticking to it…. I do remember the ferry trip we took down the canals, which was worthwhile… Shortly after I took the picture above.
This picture was taken in the main part of town, just before sunset. One thing Europe is not short of is churches….
From Holland we took the bullet train to Paris, where we stayed for 4 days. Once again, no beaches in Paris, but some nice waterways all the same. This pic is ofcourse the Eiffel Tower, below is the river along the famous church Notre Dame.
