Caves Beach is around 120kms North of Sydney, just over half way to Newcastle. It is a small beachside town with good surf and fishing.
My friend Boe and family rented a house at Caves for a week… I was working and could only pull one day off, so I came up on Wednesday night for a Thursday Surf and again on Friday Night with the Fiancee for the Weekend. On Thursday we ended going a fair way back South looking for a good wave, ending up at Norah Head before heading back for a so-so session at an unremarkable stretch of sand nearby.
Saturday morning was another thing altogether though… we got up EARLY to check out the main beach where they were holding a surf comp by dawns early light… see below… We ended up a little further North at a little rocky bay we had all to ourselves, which was surprising given the smoothness of the shear walls of water we got to ride….
Saturday night brought the rains, Sunday was a washout, so we checked out the nearby Morisset Markets before heading back home.
