Dolphins – Monkey Mia

We were told the dolphins visit the beach to be fed each morning around 7:30am, but apparently they are not so great at telling time as it was more like 8:30 before they finally turned up. We were lined up along the shore so they could get a good look at us and had plenty of time to watch them swim back and play around in the shallows. Only a few of us got to feed them as they are very careful to only provide a little of what they need to eat each day so they do not get lazy and forget how to hunt!

Although the feeding was a great experience the real highlight for me happened later in the afternoon when a couple of dolphins visited the near empty beach. This felt more natural for me.. the dolphins weren’t fed, they just swam along the shore, fighting with some seagulls for some fish before swimming back out again.
