The weather in Sydney has been all over the place for the last few weeks.. sunny one day, windy and rainy the next.. you could almost mistake the place for Melbourne (if it were 10 degrees colder). I planned this weekend poorly, on sunny Saturday we went shopping at Parramatta and then to the movies to watch The Town, while cold and rainy Sunday I headed to Dee Why for a surf.
It was not the best day, but of course being Sydney and a Sunday the break was still crowded. I gave up after less than an hour and limped back home, stopping at my favourite cafe for a bowl of Laksa to warm back up.
I’m meeting my brother at Caves Beach next Sunday, where we will stay for the 4 day Melbourne Cup weekend. Melbourne Cup Day is not actually a holiday here in Sydney, but I managed to convince people that the holiday applies to me as I was born in Melbourne…
On Sunday we visited friends who own the Hobbits cafe on Bondi Beach. Had the omelette for breakfast then spent the morning on the beach. Saturday had been cold and windy, but as you can see from the pics Sunday was sunny, if not all that warm, and the beach got busier as the day went on.
With my house move all done now I can go away for weekends again, and have some trips planned over the next month. My brother is coming up to Newcastle area over the Melbourne Cup weekend, and we booked some $1 airfares to the Gold Coast a couple of months ago for mid November.
With my house move finished (mostly) and Daylight Saving just started, I drove down to Cronulla Beach after work to check out the surf. I had no real intention of surfing… I have no idea which box I packed my wetsuit into.. I just wanted to go to the beach after work because I can now.
The wind was really blowing offshore, but there were waves around for those keen enough for a surf (two in total). I took these pictures while walking along the path from Elouera to Cronulla before ending up at Northies for a steak sandwich and beer.
On the last day of my four day Melbourne visit I drove down to Seaford to check out a camper trailer from Podtrailers.com. Seaford is on Port Phillip Bay, about 30kms south from Melbourne, just north of Frankston. At Seaford I found a great cafe right on the beach overlooking the pier.
Im moving house tomorrow, each time it seems I end up a little further from the coast, Im out near Parramatta now… but daylight savings starts in Sydney next week so I will be able to visit the beach after work for the next 6 months…
