Long Day of driving planned for today.. first stop (after 1hr in Geelong shopping, then another 40 mins in Torquay at the surf shops), was the famous surfing spot Bells Beach. I’ve been here a few times now, and have yet to be lucky enough to witness an epic surf day, but the power of the place is detectable even on semi calm days..
Last pics from recent trip to Coolangatta.. the above shot is Duranbah Beach, also known as Flagstaff Beach. As it is right next to the Qld/NSW state border, it is the most northerly beach in New South Wales.
The picture below is of Snapper Rocks, a popular break often used in surf comps. Snapper Rocks is at the end of Rainbow Bay from previous blog entry… More Pics
Leftover picture from trip to Gold Coast last December. Im planning next trip up there for a guys surfing weekend mid Feb.. airfares are booked, just need to find some accommodation. We stayed at Nara Seaworld resort on last trip, but may try something a bit further south as we will probably spend alot of our time checking out breaks at Kirra and Burleigh Heads.
Haven’t updated page in a while, but am about to go on trip to Perth in a couple of weeks, so need to get back into practice. I went to Crescent Head a few weeks back, had a good time surfing and exploring the beaches via 4WD. I’ve updated a page on Beachwiki.org you can view here
Nobbys Beach, Newcastle
From Elizabeth Bay we drove non stop back to Newcastle, but didn’t arrive with enough time to surf and we missed the $10 Chicken Parmy and Schmiddy deal at the RSL club… we ended up eating pizza in our room at the Travelodge and watching the cricket… Well, thats another trip done. Next one planned is May to Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand…
City Beach, Port Macquarie
After Byron we drove back South, stopping at a surf shop in Macksville where I purchased my new board.. a 6’8" 7S Superfish. Keen to try it out we went to the local break Scott’s Head, but it and nearby Grassy Head were both blown out by the onshore wind. I liked Grassy Head and wanted to stay there, but all the accom was sold out so we moved on to Port Macquarie…
We stayed overnight and got up early to surf City Beach (above) where I finally got to try out my new board…
Park Beach, Coffs Harbour From Foster we drove North to Old Bar,, one of the beaches we have wanted to check out for a while but never got around to it… in this case we shouldn’t have bothered. We initially planned to stay in Port Macquarie, but then thought we would be better off getting some distance North,, so drove up to Coffs Harbour. We had a quick surf at sunset then went out for steaks and beers at the bowls club… were we were treated to a tropical lightning storm. The Next morning we got up at sunrise and surfed the main city beach at Coffs.. Park Beach,, which had surprisingly good clean 3ft waves. My friend Boe has talked me into getting a new board after seeing the work I have to put in to catch some of the smaller waves… he has a newer design that gets onto the smaller waves much easier. We plan to go to Byron next,,, I will shop around there,,,,
Bronte Beach Sydney FlashBack Nov-07 When I first joined Flickr I uploaded a couple of hundred old pics with no descriptions or understanding of the Photostream… so these pics didn’t really get seen… I now plan to rework these pics and upload between my ‘Live’ Beach 365 project.. So I at least have a picture up every day… I took this picture shortly after I got back from Europe in 2007, using my new 18-200mm VR lense I got in Nice, France. After years of using just a 24mm prime, this was my first real Zoom shot…
