Just as we approached the famous Apostles the weather finally broke, the rain stopped and the sun even showed through the clouds in spots. The weather turned against us just past Lorne, with clouds and drizzle closing in. It also got very cold and windy. We stopped at Apollo Bay for our dinner break, eating a nice local pizza in the park on the foreshore before heading off again.

Long Day of driving planned for today.. first stop (after 1hr in Geelong shopping, then another 40 mins in Torquay at the surf shops), was the famous surfing spot Bells Beach. We stayed on the beach until sunset, then went looking for a place for dinner. We ended up at one of the seafood crepe places near the summer fair..
Finally finished with all the Xmas dinners, BBQs and Boxing Day we left Melbourne late afternoon and headed south to Geelong. We had looked at accommodation further down the Great Ocean Road, but understandably everything was booked out. We had thought about booking earlier, but if the weather was foul we would have bypassed this part of the coast.
In the end it worked out well, as the foreshore along Geelong is now a very interesting place.
I walked out onto the pier at sunset.. there is a colony of little penguins that live in the break wall past the kiosk, but they took their time coming back in and it was past dark before they arrived.
After Xmas lunch with my family, we all met up again and went to St Kilda Beach on xmas night, which is a traditional hangout for travellers at this time of year. We took pictures of the pier at sunset and had a gelato.
We met up with my brother Paul at Mordialloc for breakfast then went for a snorkel and fish on the reef near the pier. We caught a snapper and a couple of abalone..
We stopped at Squeaky Beach on Wilson’s Prom for about an hour. True to its name, the fine white sand makes a high pitched sound when you walk on it. This is my second short trip to Squeaky.. I really want to spend more time at the Prom in the near future…
